Vaikuntha वैकुंठ

ॐ नमः शिवाय

In Various puranas, Vaikuntha is depicted as the abode of Lord Mahavishnu. In Amarakosa,  it is said that Vikuntha is mother of Lord Mahavishnu in one of his avataras. Kuntha कुंठ means dull witted, slow or a fool. who is asleep and blind to reality. The negation of this is Vikuntha विकुंठ one who is sharp and keen in intellect and one who is real.

Vaikuntha वैकुंठ is dwelling of such a realized soul Vikuntha विकुंठ. In the 12th Skanda of Srimad Bhagavatham, it is said

आतपत्रं तु वैकुण्ठं धाम द्विजा कुत अभयम्

It is a dwelling of fearlessness. If you see yourself in other, then the other is not feared. One who sees Sri Vishnu in every bit of creation, to the one no fear exists. Then this realization is like an umbrella (आतपत्रं ).

The Vedic Ayushya Suuktam says: एकः पुरस्तात् य इदं बभूव. In the beginning there is ONE and all this came from the one.

Such a person is a true twice born or a brahmana. Vaikuntha is this protection that is ever present and it is more profitable not to see it as a fixed location. The Umbrella is धाम  of fearlessness (abode of protection).

Any limitation causes fear. The upansihad  says the state of anantam (no limit) is aanandam (bliss) . To live in present, cultivate this attitude.
